BAG was founded by Jane Arden.  Jane grew up in Hong Kong and she saw every visiting theatre company, including Derek Nimmo's dinner theatre at the Hilton Hotel, hoping that one day she would be able to  make a career in acting.  As luck would have it, her first West End job was in "A Friend Indeed" with Derek Nimmo, Geoffrey Palmer and Moira Lister!

How BAG came about:

In October 2002, Jane's brother Clive was killed in the Bali bombing. In memory of Clive, the family  has supported a charity in an incredibly poor part of Bali run by David Booth MBE.  Jane decided to set up a theatre company that pays the professional artists (she does not think that actors should work for nothing) but she and her husband do not take a fee.  This means that any profit BAG makes goes to her chosen charity; East Bali Poverty Project.

The perfect play to launch BAG:

Jane was cast in a play commissioned by Sir Alan Ayckbourn, to be performed in the restaurant  of his theatre.  The play took place in the middle of the restaurant and was performed once the diners had eaten their meal.  She realised that "Amaretti Angels" would be perfect to perform in other restaurants as it required few props and the set was already there!

Fast forward a couple of years and she had performed it in London restaurants and at private members clubs in the Middle and Far East.  It was a sell out at every venue and EBPP benefited greatly.

What happened next:

Many productions followed and BAG is looking forward to continuing to create new site specific pieces.

The actors who have performed for BAG are accomplished, professional actors who have worked at the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and mainstream theatres throughout the UK and abroad.  They have also worked in television and film.  Jane is keen to work with new talent as well as established artists, including writers and directors.

Having recently moved to Sussex, Jane is looking to work closely with local venues and those in the business who live in the area.  She is very excited about potential plans in 2024 so watch this space….
